Crew – An Interface That Gives You Overview of All Your

Spring is definitely here and we’re planning a series of improvements to Shipgaz Training. The most comprehensive and first one out is Crew. A new interface built to give you a better view of your employees and their course results.

With Crew, it’s easy to invite your employees, see when they signed up and follow their latest activity and progress.

Edit profiles and ID data
Crew lets you edit all your employee’s profile data and ID information. The interface allows you to fill out information in advance to shorten your employees registration. This means that they don´t need to upload a passport or Seaman’s Book when they create their account.

A powerful export function
Let’s say you’re to export a particular ship’s combined certificates, or all certificates on a certain vessel for the crew members that are working on deck and have completed Risk Assessment; No problem – use the search filter to find the information you’re looking for and quickly make a bulk export of the data. Shipgaz will forward the certificates in a zipped file and send them straight to the person in need of the information.

That’s all for now! We’ll soon be back with more feature improvements and product changes!

Handle fuel professionally on board LNG ships

hero_lng@2xThe use of LNG as a marine fuel is growing. LNG is potentially more hazardous than conventional marine fuels. However, when handled professionally, the risks can be mitigated and avoided, to the benefit of not only the fuel costs but also the vessel emission profile, and prolonged machinery service intervals. This course gives seafarers involved in the fuel handling onboard an introduction to the use of gases and other low-flashpoint fuels.

Read the product sheet or visit your Company settings page in your Shipgaz Training account to activate this course for your crew.

Enclosed Space Entry training is available

The dangers in enclosed spaces are many. All risks needs to be assessed before entry and a permit has to be issued.

Our Enclosed Space Entry training  is based on the amendment to SOLAS regulation III/19, on emergency training and rescue drills connected to an enclosed space entry. SOLAS regulation III/19 requires crew members with enclosed-space entry or rescue responsibilities to participate in an enclosed space entry and rescue drill at least once every two months.

Enclosed Space Entry provides the knowledge to handle, lead and perform an enclosed space entry. Achievements are assessed by a final test.

Focus areas:
Training and general caution, Procedures and Arrangements for enclosed space entries, Atmosphere test, Control of entry, Enclosed space unsafe for entry, Pump-room entry precautions, Work in enclosed space, Respiratory protective equipment and Emergency procedures.

  • Title: Enclosed Space Entry

Online vs Classroom training

There is a debate whether maritime training should be performed in classrooms only or if online training is a suficcient alternative.

Our view is that online training will never fully replace classroom teaching, in some cases you still need the productive classroom discussions to obtain a deeper understanding of the subject but in other cases e-learning can be a relevant stand-alone alternative. As faster connections and new technology comes along, the number of people choosing online training will increase.

Another aspect is the importance of setting, some people prefer classrooms and get better results in that setting, others perform and learn easier in a familiar environment such as at home by the kitchen table. The next generation of seafarers might prefer online training to a much greater extent because they grew up using computers in school, at home and on the go.

We belive that mixed learning will be the way of the future, with e-learning as preparation for discussion and exam in classroom. This way, the time spent in classroom can be minimised by preparing the students before they enter the classroom, thus giving them the theoretical knowledge required to get the most out of their education.

You need to upload a digital copy of your seaman’s book or passport

Last night we upgraded Shipgaz Training to meet new demands from The Swedish Transport Agency and several other maritime administrations. For you as a user this means that you have to upload a valid ID documentation to confirm the authenticity of your account.

Next time you log in to Shipgaz Training you will get notified that you need to upload a digital copy of your seaman’s book or passport in order to receive certificates in the future. You can still perform training as usual, but there will be no certificates sent out until we verified your documentation. The process consists of four easy steps and only needs to be done once.

We will be available for support via chat, mail and phone.
